Hyacinthe Dubreuil
Hyacinthe Dubreuil was born in Bérou-la-Mulotière (Eure-et-Loir) on May 3rd, 1883 and dies in Paris on July 3rd, 1971. Wire of an workman-operation, it makes its training as mechanic metal worker in the Companions of the Duty. It is registered with the CGT trade union since 1900 and becomes in 1912 secretary of the Union of the garage hands of the Seine, then in 1914 general secretary. He is also member of the Executive commission of the Federation of Metals. He is mobilized in the firemen of Paris, then seconded to a factory of weaponry.
From 1918 to February 18th, 1920, it is permanent secretariat of the Federation of European and International Public Service Unions of the Seine, replaced by Gaston Guiraud. Consequently, it takes its distances and leaves CGT in March 1931. During this period, he travels, works a time as mechanic at Ford in the USA (in Détroit), experiment from which he draws his work Standards (1929) which was very criticized because of its remarks on the merits of the machine and the “chain” that CGT denounces. Dubreuil continues its reflections on the company and the organization of work, which end to preach the creation of “autonomous workshops”, economically and financially, to support the training of the management of work and to the workman “the means would give of achieving its existence on the three plans, economic, intellectual, and moral, or else it will be always vain to hope to reach social peace. ” From 1930 to 1938, Hyacinthe Dubreuil sat at the International office of Work.
He thought that " Any social organization rests on three elements: material and economic (stomach); intellectual (brain); moral and emotional (heart). However, with the Taylorism, the material plan and economic is the business of the Syndicats; the intellectual plan is destroyed; in the same way, the moral and emotional plan is almost ignoré."
In 1937 he writes a booklet, “Letter with the French workers”, in whom he delivers his reflections on the organization of work.
Texts
" I already indicated higher than it was also chimerical to await a substantial raising of the economic situation by the only reduction of the duration of the work… If one restricts oneself to reduce the duration of the work without touching with the capitalist mechanism, one makes simply more intense the competition which exists between the workman and the machine. Because when the price of labor increases, the mechanical production becomes by contrast less expensive. And capitalism remaining free then to improve the machine to employ less workmen, the reform which one had obtained turns over against those which had conquered it… Another consequence, namely that as one reduces the duration of the work, and always because of this same capitalist mechanism which remained intact, the intensity of work increases for the same duration. It is undeniable that its rate/rhythm did not cease growing as capitalism had to exploit work over a shorter time. So that one can say, without paradox, that under pretext of decrease nervous tiredness by decreasing the duration of the work, one will expose oneself on the contrary to increase it, as a long time as capitalism, controlling only the organization of work, will remain free to accelerate the rythme." of it; ( end of the monsters , p. 238-239.)
