Hvítá
It there two rivers of this name in Iceland.
The name implies white water. It there several lakes and rivers with the adjective hvítur (white) like part of the name. That is explained by the fact why the majority of drinking water come from the glaciers in this country.
1) Hvítá (Borgarfjörður) , close to Reykholt in the west of the country:
This river arrives of the Glacier Ok and is thrown on the cascades Barnafoss and passes the Hraunfossar whose water flows in the river before crossing a long valley and to reach the Borgarfjörður.
2) Hvítá , in the south of the country:
The river comes from the Glacier Langjökull. After 40 km, Hvítá throws cliffs of the fall Gullfoss and fall by 15 m in a narrow throat. From there, water approaches the sea, which is at a distance of about 60 km.
