Hussigny-Godbrange is a common French, located in the department of Meurthe-et-Moselle and the area Lorraine.

Geography

Hussigny is a village border with Luxembourg. It marks the triple point between the current Franco-German border and the border between 1871 and 1914.

History

  • Hussigny was one of the centers of the Mines de Fer de Lorraine (Basin of the Lorraine iron ore (Lorraine Minette)).

  • Hussigny was one of the centers of Italian immigration in Lorraine. Formerly one also spoke about “Low-Italy” of Hussingy. In Italian-American English, Hussigny is known like “Little Italy” Frenchwoman. Until the end of the years 1950, the dialect Romagnol was still practiced in Low-Italy de Hussigny, because most of the inhabitants was originating in Romagna.

  • Low-Italy , district of Hussigny-Godbrange, owes its name with its situation in the village as with the population which composed district. Low-Italy is a district below located the village and at 500 m of the Luxembourg border.   • Evelyne Marie France Nave born Migliori, political woman Franco-German, of Italian origin, was born in Hussigny. E. Nave is one of the rare Frenchwomen decorated with the Bundesverdienstkreuz. Its family, of origin Migliori, was a familie of Low-Italy.
  • Jean Claude Bouttier godfather of the Boxing ring Jean Claude Bouttier d' Hussigny and director of the Sports of Canal+.
