Hurghada (in Arab Al Ghardaqah الغردقة) is an important tourist city of Egypt. It was founded at the beginning of the 20th century and since the Années 1980, the city did not cease being increased by multiple investors to make this balneal city one of the most appreciated sites tourists at the edge of the Red Sea. Located at the south of the Suez Canal and at six hours of road of the Cairo, the area which surrounds the city centers its development around the Tourisme and of hotel trade. The activities suggested to the holiday makers on the spot are mainly centered on the Plongée.
Today, under the pressure of many ecological associations which denounce the anarchistic urban development, the Egyptian State fixed taxes intended for the protection of the Red Sea, one of the most beautiful sites in the world for the Plongée.
In the night of the 2 and February 3rd 2006, the ferry Al-Salam Boccaccio 98 made shipwreck with 70 kilometers of Hurghada.
