Huntington Beach is a coastal town of the Comté of Orange, located in the south of the California. According to the census of 2000, the city has a population of 189.594 inhabitants. She is surrounded in south-west by the Pacific Ocean, Seal Beach in the North-West, Costa Mesa in the east, Newport Beach in south-east, Westminster in north and Fountain Valley in the North-East. Huntington Beach is known for its 14 km long beach (8,5 miles), its soft climate and its pier ( pier ).
Climate
The city profits from a Mediterranean Climat with tropical tendency. The climate is thus generally sunny, dry and expenses even if certain evenings can be very wet. The morning and the evening, there are often strong breezes (25 km/h). The temperature of water lies on average between 10°C and 15°C. The summer, the temperatures exceed only very seldom the 25°C. The winter they only go down very seldom below the 10°C, even during the clear nights. There are approximately 250 mm of rain per annum.
Culture
Huntington Beach is the place where the championships of the world of surfing proceed each summer. The city is commonly called " Surfing City" because of this event but also of its history and culture surfing which was born there. The city is also a popular destination for the Kitesurf which is practiced on the beach in the North-West of the pier.
The city is evoked in a song of the Beach Boys: " Surfin' Safari".
Very many Skateboard ers professional also settled in this city (Bastien Salabanzi, Arto Saari, Mark Appleyard,…).
Huntington Beach has the largest pier (pier) of the west coast of the the United States.

The city is often classified among the 10 surest cities of the the United States compared to its size in term of criminality.
As regards bather, the swimming teachers rescuers (life guards) of Huntington Beach are among best world. The city has an effective system of urgencies in addition.
The city, like practically all California, is placed on a particularly active seismic zone. It results from it that Earthquakes are possible there. As it is about a coastal town, the risk of Tsunami is also to take into account. However all these natural risks remain very limited and it is possible to go to Huntington Beach in full safety.

Although Huntington Beach was always known for its long story related to surfing, a controversy in connection with the label " surfing city" recently appeared. This one is also claimed by the town of Santa Cruz, located in the north of California. Obvious U.S. and Trademark Office however decided on May 12th, 2006 to grant the trade-mark laws to Huntington Beach.
