Hunnenschlacht (Liszt)
Hunnenschlacht ( " The Battle of Huns" ) is a Symphonic poem of Franz Liszt, written in 1857 according to the homonymous pictorial work of Wilhelm von Kaulbach.
The latter described the battle of the fields catalaunic which took place into 451, and during which the hunnic armies, carried out by Attila met a Roman coalition directed by the Roman general Flavius Aëtius and king Wisigoth Theodoric.
The first section of this work, Tempestuoso, allegro not troppo , carries the following instuctions on behalf of the type-setter: “ One will have to endeavor to maintain color orchestral very dark, all the instruments having to sound like phantoms ”
