Hundwil
Hundwil is a common Suisse of the canton of Appenzell Rhodos-External.
The population of Hundwil in the old district of Hinterland was 943 inhabitants in 1980 and 1038 inhabitants in 2000.
Geography
The commune of Hundwil is located at the foot of the Säntis. Its altitude lies between 655 meters, at the edge of the river Urnäsch, and 2501 meters, at the top of Säntis. The collar of the Schwägalp, station starting of the cable car of Säntis, is also on the communal territory.The commune is spread out over the North-South axis. The southernmost limit and the septentrional limit are separated by 13,8 kilometers.
History
The place is mentioned for the first time into 921.In 1401, a treaty of alliance is signed with the town of Saint-Gall. In 1513, the canton of Appenzell enters the Confederation.
Since the end of XVIe century, Hundwil was, alternatively with Trogen the seat of the landsgemeinde, which it accommodated the odd years until in 1997.
Until 1997, Hundwil belonged to the district of Hinterland.
