Hugues of the Pole

Hugues of the Pole is noble frank 10th century. It is wire junior by Fulcois, count of the Pole, probably of the family of the Viscounts of Châteaudun, and Mélisende. It is also one of the first ancestors in male line of the Plantagenêts

He married Béatrice de Mâcon, widow of Geoffroy I {{er}}, count of Gâtinais. Of this marriage, it had:

  • Geoffroy II Ironwood, count of Gâtinais. By its marriage with Ermengarde-White of Anjou, its descendants will become count d' Anjou, then king de Jérusalem and of England.
  • Liétaud († 1050), lord of Yèvres of 1028 to 1050.

In the charter that his/her son-in-law Aubry, count of Gâtinais, and Francon, bishop of Paris signed the May 26th 1028, it is quoted like witnesses, with its two sons Geoffroy and Liétaud. It is this act which could establish the second marriage of Beatrice with Hugues of the Pole.

Resulting from a vassal family of the counts de Blois, whereas the counts of Gâtinais was faithful to the Kings de France Capétiens, the marriage probably took place for one period of bringing together between the two families, that is to say during the union of the king Robert II the Piles and of Berthe of Burgundy, widow of Eudes Ier of Blois, between 996 and 1003. The house of Blois was also the irreducible enemies of the counts d' Anjou of the 10th century at the 12th century, also the Plantagenêts, descendants of the counts d' Anjou, sought to mask Hugues de Perche, however their ancestor agnatic, to hide a male origin going in the entourage of the counts de Blois. Medieval genealogists went even until inventing Bouchard, count de Gâtinais, like father of Geoffroy Ferréol.
