Saint Hugues of Rouen is known as also sometimes improperly Hugues de Champagne , without consideration for its ecclesiastical state without which it would probably not have the celebrity who is his. He was grandson of Pépin of Herstal and Plectrude, wire of Drogon de Champagne (670-708) and of Adaltrude. The latter is the girl of the Maire of the palate of Neustrie Berchaire and Anstrude. Died the April 9th 730, festival the April 9th.
Whereas it was only laic, it gives many grounds to the abbeys of Saint-Wandrille and Jumièges. After the distribution of its goods, it is delivered distractions of this world, withdraws in the monastery of Jumièges in 718 and embraces the religious profession under the abbot Cochin.
In 722, the episcopal see of the town of Rouen is vacant, that which was not any more Hugues de Champagne since his profession monastic is then drawn from its loneliness and named bishop of the city. One year after, in 723, it accepts the load of abbot of Fontenelle. The following year, it is simultaneously bishop of Paris and Bayeux as well as the 4th abbot of Jumièges. On the end of its life, it is withdrawn in this abbey. It there dies the April 9th 730 and is buried in the Notre-Dame church.
