Hugues de Chalon (prince-bishop)

Hugues de Chalon , known as the Deaf person, Prince-bishop of Liege (1295-1301), then archbishop of Besancon.

He is the son of Jean Ier de Chalon and of Laure de Commercy.

He was one of the actors of the Guerre of Awans and Waroux.

According to the chronicle of Saint-Trond, it was quoted in front of the Roman curia in September 1300 to have let his brother Jean de Chalon strike currencies not having the necessary weight. Moreover it had utlilisé the goods of the church to get resources and partisans.

The pope Boniface VIII then removes the to him Principauté of Liege and transfers it to évêché from Besancon, where it will remain until his death.
