Hugues II of Vaudémont

Hugues II of Vaudémont , died in 1242 was count de Vaudémont of 1188 with 1242. It was wire of Gerard II, count de Vaudémont, and of Gertrude de Joinville.

He marries in 1189 Hedwige de Raynel, rams of Gondrecourt, and a:

At the beginning of its reign, it especially known by donations in favor of abbeys. In 1202, a peace treaty enters the duke of Lorraine Simon II and the count de Bar Thiébaut Ier. Twenty-five years earlier, Simon II and his brother Ferry Ier de Bitche had been opposed for the succession of Lorraine, which had led to a division of the duchy. Without child, it had indicated to succeed its nephew Ferry II to him, the son of Ferry Ist to obtain the support of the count de Bar, it yielded to him by the treaty of 1202, the suzerainty of the county of Vaudémont. Thus in 1205, with died of Simon II, Hugues II became the vassal one of the count de Bar.

That it empécha not to pursue its own policy. Thus at the time of the conflict which opposed Erard de Brienne to Thibaud IV in connection with the succession of the Champagne county, it took party for Erard whereas the count of selected Bar Thibaut.

It tests the Whit Sunday 1235 (this will is one of the most precise documents on the extent of the county of Vaudémont) and thus shares its possessions:

in Hugues, it leaves most of the patrimonial field, that is to say the county of Vaudémont and the grounds of the Châtel-on-Moselle, Vitry and Vandéléville.
in Geoffroy, it leaves, part of the maternal heritage, either mainly the ground of Gondrécourt
Gerard, the remainder of the maternal heritage, or Urufle, Saint Christophe, Chenièvre and Ary, like some grounds concerned with the county of Burgundy.
