Hugues II of Ponthieu

Hugues II of Ponthieu († 1052), were count de Ponthieu of 1045 to 1052 and lord of Aumale. He was the son of Enguerrand Ier, count de Ponthieu.

About 1030, his/her father the Marie with Berthe, girl and heiress of GuƩrimfred, lord of Aumale. From this marriage will be born:

  • Enguerrand II († 1052), count de Ponthieu and lord of Aumale.
  • Guy {{Ier}} († 1100), count de Ponthieu.
  • Hugues, which takes part in the Bataille of Hastings.
  • another son, quoted by the Chronic of Saint-Riquier , who could name Galeran, killed with the Bataille of Mortemer in 1054.
  • a girl, married to Guillaume of Normandy, count d' Arques.

In 1035, it appears at the sides of his father on a diploma of the king Henri Ier de France. It succeeds his father about 1045 and pursues the policy of alliance with Normandy initiated by his father. It Marie her daughter with Guillaume d' Arques, wire of the duke Richard II of Normandy and his/her Enguerrand son with a sister of the duke Guillaume. These alliances are reinforced with those concluded between the house from Normandy and Flanders.

But the count did not benefit a long time from his policy, because it is killed a few years later, on November 20th, 1052, and is buried with the Abbaye of Saint-Riquier.
