Hugues III of Rethel

Hugues III , died in 1243, was count de Rethel of 1228 with 1243. He was the oldest son of Hugues II, count de Rethel, and of Happiness of Broyes.

Biography

He married in first weddings towards 1218 Mabille de Bailleul, burgravine of Ypres and Bailleul and had:
  • Jean (v. 1219 † 1243). Married to Marie d' Audenaarde, he died before his father.
  • Congratulated († 1248)

Widower, it remaria in 1239 with Jeanne de Dampierre, girl of Guillaume II, lord of Dampierre, and Marguerite II, comtess of Flanders and of Hainaut.

He died in 1243. His/her Jean brother succeeded to him, while his widow remaria with Thiébaut II, count de Bar.
