Hugo Legzdins
Hugo Legzdins (lv '' Hugo Legzdiņš '' in Latvian, Russian Ru '' ХугоЛегздиньш '' in ), born the December 7th 1903 with Ledourga in Latvia (then province of the Russian Empire), deceased the July 20th 2004, was a Latvian military personality . It occupied the stations of Vice-amiral and Commander of the Latvian navy and was patented at the school of the torpedes of the marine Frenchwoman. The July 27th 2001, the French president Jacques Chirac decreed to him the cross of knight of the Légion of honor for services rendered to France.
In 1926, Hugo Legzdins joined the Latvian underwater division and took part in France in the baptism of the first Sous-marin of the Latvian navy, the Ronis . It completed its studies with the Naval college in 1938. Two years later it became ordering Ronis . In 1941, after the annexation of Latvia by the Soviet Union, the submarines passed under the cut of Moscow and Legzdins was isolated of its station. It passed the remainder of its life to teach the Astronomie and the Navigation with the marine candidates. December 7th 2003, Hugo Legzdins celebrated his 100 years in its native village of Ledourga located at 70 km in the north of Riga. It died out the following year.
The 22 July 2004, the Latvian Foreign Minister Artis Pabriks addressed a letter to the close relations of the commander in whom he wrote: “Neither the name of Hugo Legzdins, nor his achievements will be able to be erased memory of the nation and will remain registered forever in the history of the Latvian Armed forces, the Latvian naval academy and the Republic of Latvia”.
