Hugo Haase

Hugo Haase (born the September 29th 1863 in Allenstein, nowadays Olsztyn, in the Prussia Eastern, dead the November 7th 1919 with Berlin) was a Politician Socialiste and German Pacifiste .

Biography

Haase was the son of a shoe-maker Juif. After its Abitur, it made its studies in right and administrative sciences with Königsberg, where it becomes lawyer in 1890. During many processes, it defended of the social-democrats who were persecuted for political reasons, between them Otto Braun. Haase itself was a member of the party SPD since 1887 and supported the " there; révisionnistes" who preferred to reform the company that to revolutionize it.

In 1911, it was elected president of the SPD with August Bebel, and later with Friedrich Ebert. It had to resign in 1916 because of its criticism of the First World War and the policy during the war.

By representing new USPD (Parti social democrat independent of Germany), whose Haase became president after Easter 1917, he was a member of the Rat der Volksbeauftragten (council of the police chiefs of the people) at the end of the war and because of German Révolution, and managed it in collaboration with Friedrich Ebert. He resigned about it with the two other police chiefs of the USPD in December 1918, because about Ebert to oppress the revolutionary soldiers of the marine . The USPD gained only 7,6% of the votes in the elections of January 19th 1919.

There remained president of the parliamentary group of the USPD in the Parliament in Weimar until its death: one unbalanced drew to him above in Berlin in October 1919, it died about it a few weeks later.
