Huey P. Newton

Huey P. Newton (February 17th 1942 with Monroe, Louisiana (the United States) - August 22nd 1989 with Oakland, California) was a politician, writer and theorist Afro-américain, cofounder of the party of the Black Panthers.

Biography

After an engagement in various political associations, progressists, black culturalists, Newton decides to create a revolutionary political organization, in company of Bobby Seale, the Black Panther Party for Self Defense . It will occupy the post of minister of defense there.

Its message is especially nationalist, takes as a starting point theorists such as Frantz Fanon, Mao Zedong or of the more traditional sources of black nationalism (Malcolm X) or anticolonialist. The line adopted by the party and preached by Huey Newton is summarized in a platform in ten points. The essential component will be the principle of self-defense of the black population against police oppression.
