Hubert Curien
Hubert Curien , born the October 30th 1924 with Cornimont and dead the February 6th 2005 with Loury, is a Cristallographe French, and the Minister for the search for 1984 with 1986.
Biography
Hubert Curien was born from a father rate collector, Robert Curien, and of a mother teacher, Berthe Girot. Raise Lycée Saint-Louis with Paris, it returns however at twenty years in the the Vosges to engage in the resistance to the maquis of the Prickly-Pierre. Taking again the course of its studies to the Release, it chooses to enter to the National university preferably to the Polytechnic school because of a weakness to the knee contracted to the maquis. It launches out then in a scientific career by the door of the Cristallographie.
University lecturer, then professor with the Faculty of Science of Paris, it returns to CNRS in 1966 as director of the Mathematical physics department. There will remain however professor at the university and will ensure his courses all its life. He in particular discovered a new crystalline form of the Gallium within the framework of his work at the laboratory of Minéralogie and crystallography of the Université of Paris.
Having a field crop and very open on its contemporaries, appreciated as much by the line than by the left, he sees himself offering posts of decision maker and leader in the medium of French research:
- Managing director of CNRS of 1969 to 1973.
- President of CNES of 1976 to 1984, period during which the first shooting of the Fusée ARIANE is carried out.
- First president of the European space agency of 1979 to 1984.
- First president of the Association of the museums and centers of scientific culture, technique and industrial (AMCSTI) starting from 1982.
It is deceased in its property of the Loiret, with Loury, the February 6th 2005, at the 80 years age. Its funerals took place in its native village of Cornimont where it rests today.
Minister
These successes force it to become Minister for the search for 1984 to 1986 pennies the Gouvernement Laurent Fabius, then again, but with less force, of 1988 in March 1993 (under the governments Rocard, Cresson and Bérégovoy).
In 1991, it decides to celebrate the ten years of the ministry by opening its gardens with the public for the first time. This local event precedes the demonstration Science Celebrates of it (which will become later the Fête of Science ), created the following year.
Honorary titles
Then the honorary nominations and titles follow one another:
- Directing of the University of industrial chemistry of Lyon (ESCIL), become University electronic physics chemistry of Lyon, between 1993 and 2005.
- President of the council of the European Laboratory of physics of the particles (CERN) of January 1994 in December 1996.
- President of the Foundation of France of 1998 to 2000.
- President of the Academy of Science of 2001 to 2003, of which he was member since 1993.

Homages
Promotion 2005 of the University electronic physics chemistry of Lyon from which he was director is baptized “Hubert-Curien Promotion”. The same year, the Diderot trophy of the initiative cultural for the category “Personality of the scientific culture, technique and industrial” (given by the AMCSTI he was the president) is famous “Hubert-Curien Price”.
In 2000, it accepts, to give its name to the school Hubert CURIEN of Bourges. This Higher Training center of the Apprentices, created and managed by the CCI of Expensive, offers formations VAT + 5 in Management of the Industrial Risks and Quality.
January 1st, 2006, the multi-field Institut Hubert Curien is created with Strasbourg
The college of Cornimont is baptized “College Hubert-Curien” the January 20th 2007 and the Academic institute of technology of famous Épinal with its name the same year.
In March 2007, the European space agency announces that the site of landing of the probe Huygens on Titan, the largest satellite of Saturn, would receive the name of “Hubert-Curien Memorial”.
The conference room of the Free fields to Rennes bears her name.
The programmes of bilateral of the Ministries for Foreign Affairs, formerly known scientific exchanges under the name of “Action plans integrated” or FEEDS, were renamed “Hubert-Curien Partnerships” or PHC. Such partnerships exist with more than 60 countries.
The House of Science with co. Savine (close to Troyes) bears its name, as well as a street of Maxéville (close to Nancy).
Family
He was the son-in-law of the academician Georges Dumézil. His/her son, Pierre-Louis Curien, is a data processing specialist theorist of reputation. Another as of its sons, Christophe Curien, is artist-painter.His/her brother, Gilles Curien, is Ambassadeur of France.
