Huaorani
The Huaorani (or Waorani), are one of thirteen recognized indigenous nationalities of the Ecuador.
Huaorani have their territory located in the Amazonian part of Ecuador, in the provinces of Napo, Orellana and Pastaza. They are still often indicated by the populations of other areas by the pejorative term Aucas , name of origin Quechua whose direction is: Wild of the forest .
One evaluates the importance of their population between 2.200 and 2.500 people. Their ancestral territory is evaluated to 2.000.000 ha of Right Bank of the Río Napo in left bank of Rio Curaray. Since 1990, a piece of this one, 716.000 ha, was legalized by convention like territory of Huaronari nationality, territory on which they do not have however a document of title.
Their origin is unknown. Their language (Huao Tiriro), does not present a similarity with that of the other populations of the area and no bond could be found with other linguistic groups. It is thought that they have migrated for one unspecified time of areas more to the east of the Amazonian basin.
They arrived, until 1958, to maintain the defense of their territory and their independence by warlike actions and a great mobility.
