Hrotti

Hrotti is a sword in the Cycle of Sigurd. It is initially the property of Fáfnir, which makes use of it to threaten his/her brother Regin and to preserve for him only the treasure from which they come to seize by assassinating their father Hreidmar ( Skaldskaparmal , 40). Sigurd takes possession of it after having killed Fáfnir ( Reginsmál , prose; Völsunga saga , 20), at the same time as of the other treasures that the dragon had dissmimulés in its cave.

Sometimes Hrotti is mentioned in the Thula of the swords, and meets in fact in scaldic Poésie.

The name of Hrotti is sometimes brought closer to Hrunting, the sword that Unferth lends to Beowulf at the time of its combat against the Mère of Grendel (1457) .
