Howard Ashman

Howard Ashman (May 3rd 1950, Baltimore, Maryland - March 14th 1991, Los Angeles, California), born under the name Howard Elliott Gershman , was a lyric author American of music of spectacles and films. He collaborated with Alan Menken on several films, in particular certain cartoons of Disney. Ashman wrote the words while made up Menken the musics.

Menken and Ashman also collaborated on the spectacle the Small Shop of the horrors with Ashman as director, author lyric and of the booklet.

With Menken, Ashman received two rewards of Grammy Awards, two Golden Globes and of two Oscars. Its second Academy Award was allotted to him in 1992 on a purely posthumous basis for the best song. The trophy was given and accepted by his/her companion Bill Lauch. It was first Academy Award given on a purely posthumous basis with somebody who had died of the AIDS.

Ashman died the March 14th 1991, at the 40 years age following the AIDS, during the creation of the Beautiful one and the Animal and of Aladdin. For Aladdin , the song " Proud off Your Boy" was one of the last songs written by Ashman, but it was withdrawn from film with that of the character of the mother of Aladdin. Ashman and Menken had fortunately finished the songs of the Beautiful one and the Animal , but Tim Rice was called to finish the songs of Aladdin with Menken.

Who gave has mermaid her voice, 
and has beast his drunk.

In 2001, it was named a Disney Legend on a purely posthumous basis.
