Hovering

The hovering indicates the capacity of an animal or an apparatus to remain apparently motionless in space compared to a point located in a terrestrial reference frame.

Examples: Insect S or hummingbirds butinant a flower, Helicopter carrying out air work such as transport of loads to sling (trees in forest, pylons in mountain, etc) or the Treuillage people unweaves some at sea or in mountain, Hélicordage of agents of the police force above a building, etc

Certain birds are able to remain a long time motionless above a given point located on the ground. There exist two possibilities for that.

  • In a motionless fluid (by complete absence of wind) the animal very quickly beats wings to ensure its Sustentation (example: a lark above a field). It is then about a true hovering.
  • By strong wind, the animal modulates its rate of advance vis-a-vis the wind so that this one is null compared to the ground (birds of sea). It does not act however in this last of a hovering strictly speaking.
