History

It is there that on May 13rd, 1940 in the morning, the German infantry managed to take foot on left bank, causing the first panic within the French staff. The opening of Houx announced the passage of the Meuse by Panzers, initially with Leffe, Dining hamlet of , then with Sedan more in the south.

There exists on the Meuse with Houx, an island: on Right Bank is a water reserve, on left bank a lock. The German soldiers made use of these elements to pass the Meuse, to sink towards Abbeville and to divide the Allies in two, in spite of the heroic resistance of the French soldiers to Haut-le-Wastia.
