Household head
Since the Years 1960, in France, the legislator tries to promote the equality of the sexes, thus going against the “natural” tendency of the company, which does not carry it out spontaneously…
After having replaced the title " Household head " by that of " Nobody of référence" , while keeping the male prevalence, INSEE waited until 2004 to start to integrate the equality of the husbands in the contents of its surveys.
The household head held the Parental rights and had priority in the signature of the contracts. He was the patriarch of the family in the direction where this one found its unit in him.
Chronology in the legislation
In France
- Civil code of 1804 - the husbands have a fundamentally uneven statute.
- Law of February 18th, 1938 - Suppression of the marital rights, the legal incapacity of the married woman as well as her duty of obedience.
- Law of September 22nd, 1942 - Association of the woman to the direction of the family.
- Law of July 13rd, 1965 - Reform of the matrimonial modes: the Frenchwomen do not need more the assent of their husband to choose a profession or to open an bank account and to have their own goods.
- Law of June 4th, 1970 - Suppression of the concept of household head to the profit of the joint parental authority.
- Law of December 23rd, 1985 - News reforms matrimonial modes: the husbands become truly equal in comparison with the law.
