House of Hostun

The Maison of Hostun is a dynasty originating in the Dauphiné.

Two of its members, the lords Ragner and Matfred, are mentioned in the cartulaire of Barnard saint of Novels, in 1047.

At the 13th century, the will of Lambert of Hostun founds the division the seigniory between the elder branch which keeps the castle of Hostun and its mandement, and connects it junior by Hostun the balsam which settles in a nearby castle.

The Dictionary of the nobility of François-Alexandre of Chenaye-Aubert draws up the genealogy of the House of Hostun as from the 14th century, as low indicated. He proposes cutting in three branches according to:

  • elder Branch

When Jacques d' Hostun married Béatrix de Claveson (14th century), girl and heiress of Geoffroy, lord of Claveson, it was regulated by the marriage contract which their children would carry the name and the weapons of Claveson with those of Hostun.
  • Branch of the lords of Balsam-in Hostun

In 1591, Balthasar d' Hostun was instituted heir by Guillaume de Gadagne, his maternal grandfather, on the condition of carrying the name and the weapons of Gadagne.
  • Branch of the lords of Tallard

In 1640, Roger d' Hostun, second wire of Balthasar, was instituted heir to its father. It acquired the ground and county of Tallard and of Fountain-Salted.
