House of Georges Clémenceau

The Maison of Georges Clémenceau is located at the edge of the Atlantic Ocean at Saint-Vincent-on-Jard in the Vendée (Pays of the Loire, France). It is classified historic building.

It is a house of fisherman painted in white, with the tiled roof, in the local style.

History

This house was rented by the politician Georges Clémenceau after her defeat with the presidential elections of 1920. It was repurchased by the State in 1932.

Museum

The house remained in the state since the death of the " tigre" with its furniture, its personal memories and its objects. It was transformed into museum.

Gardens

Georges Clémenceau intended to create gardens in the impressionist spirit with the assistance of her friend the painter Claude Monet. They were restored by the State between November 2005 and May 2006 and were inaugurated on June 9th, 2006 by Georges Clémenceau, the great-grandson of the President.

Accesses

The site occupies a dune and wooded zone with the variation of the village of Saint-Vincent and which overhangs a sand beach, rocks and of vase. The esplanade at the entry of the museum was remade and a Open-air theater was arranged in 2006. A vast surface of picnic and public benches make it possible to slacken vis-a-vis the sea, in the shade of cypress and maritime pines.
