House of Egmond

Egmond or Egmont , old and illustrates family of the Netherlands, whose chiefs were acknowledged abbey of Egmond. It goes back to Berwold d' Egmont. The lords of Egmont, having acquired the county of Buren in 1472, were divided into two lines which died out, one towards 1650 and the other in 1707. Arnoul, Adolphe and Charles d' Egmond, of the elder branch, reigned on the Duché of Gueldre (with various interruptions) of 1423 to 1538. The seigniories of Egmon and Buren had been set up in counties, the first in 1486, the second in 1492.
