House of Châteaudun

The house of Châteaudun is a medieval chalk-lining which had the Viscount of Châteaudun, and the county of the Pole. It is resulting from Geoffroy Ier, that the count Thibaut Ier the Cheater made Viscount of Châteaudun in 956. This family, probably resulting from the Rorgonides, acquired then the seigniories of Mortagne and Nogent-le-Rotrou to constitute the county of the Pole. The family was divided into two branches, one (extinct in 1226) for the Pole and the other (extinct in 1249) for Châteaudun.
