House of Butard
The Appointment of hunting known as Pavillon of Butard is in the national forest of False-Re-fixing, on the communal territory of That-Saint-Cloud in the Yvelines in France. The access is done some by the road of the Wells, secondary road 173, which marks the communal limit with the city close to Vaucresson and which connects Bougival and the Trunk road 13 to north with the secondary road 307 and the highway A13, in the vicinity, in the south.
History
In 1683, Louis XIV bought to the monks Abbaye of Saint-Germain-of-Meadows the ground of That and integrated it in large the Parc of Versailles.On a piece of this ground (wood of Hubies), the king Louis XV ordered with the architect Gabriel the construction of a hunting lodge. Its construction lasted 4 years of 1750 at 1754. It carried in the first times, the name of " House of Hubies". As from 1752, one associated with this building of the dependences such as house of guard, dairy, nasty trick, stable… Of these additional buildings of the XVIIIe century, there remains only the house of guard.
The 8 messidor year II (June 27th 1794) the house was allocated like national good to François-Nicolas Périgon, notary in Paris.
The 3 floréal year X (April 23rd 1802), it became the property of Joséphine de Beauharnais which wanted to increase its field of Malmaison. It made return to the national field at the time of the divorce in 1809 between Joséphine and.
The king Charles X, large hunter, there made some huntings.
Under the second Empire, Napoleon III tasted with the charms of this house. In 1860, the Questel architect builds the second housing of guard on the model of the first and demolishes the various dependences.
During the Franco-German War of 1870, it was occupied by the Prussians who burned the skirtings and the doors. From 1873 to 1900, the house unoccupied, was left with the abandonment and was strongly degraded. In 1884, Armand Fallières, then Minister for the State education proposed the house with Pasteur. Finally, the Government granted the park of Villeneuve-to him Etang to Marnes-the-Vain.
Of 1900 until the Years 1950, it either was rented, or placed at the disposal, of various personalities. The first was Edmond Blanc which sub-leased it with the dressmaker Paul Poiret, who gave sumptuous receptions to it. Mr. Paul Poiret followed by Mr. Métayer, restored it patiently and furnished it. The house of Butard, was in the center of a famous sex case (known as " pink ballets "), in 1959.
Thereafter, it was used as museum for the collections of association the Old man Marly .
It was classified historic building by decree of August 29th 1927.
Currently, it is state-owned property, entrusted to the National office of the forests which maintains it and rents it for cultural or family events. It is not opened with the public.
Description
Description of the 18th century - inventory at the time of the sale of the house of Butard as a national goodTo reach the house, one penetrated there by a grid which four framed Pilastre S out of stone, today disappeared. A paved yard allowed to enter an elegant house, a little higher than broad, with a projecting fore-part and a driving perron with the principal door glazed with the top of which a triangular pediment is carved.
This pediment is illustrated of a Bas-relief evoking the hunt with wild boar. External decoration remains very sober.
On each side, a door with only one Vantail is surmounted by a head of stag in an oval medallion with garlands of foliages.
After having climbed the five steps of the perron, one finds oneself in the Vestibule . The ground was covered with tiling with black and white checkerworks. The pieces of furniture of the hall were simple: a chimney, two corners of mahogany tree covered with breach S of marble, straw-bottomed chairs, a central lantern out of mirror. While entering to immediately on the left, a door gave access to:
- a staircase which went down towards the cellars. Thick walls testify to the solidity of the building and the Voûte in circular cradle had in its center a large pillar of round form which supported the living room.
- this same staircase went up on the floor where there were three parts comprising two beds, and which were enlightened only by small low windows.
At the ground floor, on the right of the hall was the cabinet of chair . It was parqueted and comprised a table to be written and armchairs in tapestry, a chair of eases in Palissandre with lead trunk, bucket of earthenware and lid, covered with blue velvet.
On the other side of the hall, on the left, the plate warmer , specific part where one heated the mets and drinks of the collations prepared in kitchen in the commun runs. It was summarily furnished: a chimney, a furnace, a table in fir tree, a ground covered with floor tiles.
In the prolongation of the hall, one finally reached the most beautiful part of Butard the living room . It was a circular part parquet floor ée where four windows alternated with portes ; a very beautiful surmounted chimney of an ice with six sides with another while hanging, a blue ceiling azure with plank of loves. The balconies in terrace had a superb sight on wood. This living room was overloaded pieces of furniture. At least 28 armchairs and chairs, four tables of play, a screen covered with Paper of China to secure rigors of fire, a lantern with five sides.
