House of Brienne
House of Brienne
The counts de Brienne made go up their ancestor until Engilbert, which lived under Hugues Capet, at the 10th century. They were vassal counts of Champagne. The medieval county was centered on the town of Brienne-the-Castle. One of them Jean went up on the thrones of Jerusalem and Constantinople; others were dukes of Athens. This house died out in 1356, in the person of Gautier VI, Connétable of France. The title of count de Brienne passed since to the houses of Conflans, of Luxembourg then of Loménie.
