House of Albret

The house of Albret is in the beginning a family of minor nobility whose cradle is located at Labrit, in the Landes. Driving out the dowries, collecting the heritages, buying when it is needed, playing a subtle and sometimes dangerous game in the conflict which, since the end of XIIIe century, opposes the king of England, duke of Aquitaine, to king de France, Albret count in a few decades among the most powerful lords of the duchy and end up rising to the throne of the kingdom of France.
Presentation
Extraordinary history that of these small gentlemen, simple owners at the origin of a few arpents of noble ground constituting to them Stronghold, with Labrit, in the middle of the deserted landais. They grow rich gradually by making the trade by conveyer by caravans, offering the means to them of gathering an army of outlaw thanks to whom they extend their field towards the Atlantic Ocean and the the Garonne, that they reach in the middle of the 13th century. Faithful to the English cause as long as they find there a profit, they finally approach the king de France Charles V, which confers on the one them, Charles Ier d' Albret, the dignity of Connétable of France, the first of the kingdom, in 1402. The house of Albret continues its continual rise, filled favors of Charles VI then of Charles VII. They take possession of the Comté of Foix, end up rising to the throne of Navarre thanks to the marriage of Jean III of Navarre with Catherine de Navarre, then with the throne of France with the advent of Henri IV, the success and a succession of advantageous marriages having supported them until the end.
Accession with the throne of France
Jean III and Catherine de Navarre die prematurely. Their son, Henri II of Navarre, is high with the distinction of duke of Albret and Pair of France in 1550. Raised to the court of France, it binds friendship as of childhood to François Ier. The sister of this last, Marguerite of Angouleme, of éprend and marries it. Their daughter Jeanne d' Albret links herself with Antoine of Bourbon, descendant of a son of Saint Louis. From this marriage is born Henri, future king Henri IV of France and Navarre, who becomes in 1572, thanks to its marriage with Marguerite de Valois, the brother-in-law of the last Valois, Charles IX and Henri III, died without heirs. Its ascent enables him to claim with the throne of France with died of the latter.
