History
The project of the MAE was born at the end of the Seventies from the wish to gather laboratories of archeology of Paris and development of research in ethnology and archeology in the young person Université of Paris X in Nanterre.
Eric de Dampierre constitutes there a department of ethnology and comparative sociology, while Rene Ginouvès gathers teams of archeologists interested by the questions of methodology.
The National center of the scientific research (CNRS) as from 1983 shows its interest for the project and brings its support to the construction of a building on the campus of the University of Paris X intended for various teams of archeology of CNRS, the Universities of Paris I and Paris X, which were dispersed in unsuited buildings.
The building counts some 7000 m ² distributed on six levels: offices for more than 250 researchers, of the meeting rooms and conferences, of the laboratories, but also two Library S and a cafeteria…
