Houdremont

Houdremont (in Walloon Hodrémont , locally Odrémont ) is a section of the common Belgian of Gedinne located in Walloon region in the Province of Namur.

It was a commune with whole share before the fusion of the communes of 1977. At December 31st, 2005, the total population of this village is of 217 inhabitants for a surface of 11,35 km ². The population density is thus of 19,12 inhabitants per km ².

Houdremont is the highest village of the province of Namur with more than 420 meters of altitude.

History

Houdremont would have undergone a strong occupation at the time of the Germanic invasions.

Under the Old Mode, this village belonged to the county of Orchimont. The " capitale" from this county corresponds today to the village of Orchimont.

Then, Houdremont, as a stronghold driving of Orchimont is acquired by the count Jean in 1260.

Under the Spanish mode, the village apparently had its own garrison. Ruins of a manor house on the locality the " Citadelle" in testified. The manor house was destroyed by a fire at the time of the last war.

Combat of resistance in August/September 1944 with people of Graide and Naomé.

Houdremont is not any more one capital autonomous since the elections of October 10th, 1976.
