Hotels of Walt Disney World

Walt Disney World is the first private world tourist site, reaching with him only between 30 and 40 million visitors per annum. Disney created around its parks of nombeux hotels, almost all thematized and whose majority are properties of Disney. Only five hotels of partners are not thématisés from their architecture and their decoration.

The Disney hotels

The hotels have mainly as a subject of the areas of the United States of America but it is a decision which goes against that of Walt Disney which wanted destinations tourist not-American. The topics of the first hotels envisaged were to be future, replaced by the contemporary world (see 1), Polynesia (see 2), Asia, India and the Mediterranean.

The current topics are those which were defined under the presidency of Michael Eisner with the head of the Walt Disney Company. The complex was completely transformed into a complex of attractions and hotels.

All the hotels of the complex are served by Disney Transport, the service of free bus of Disney. Some are also served by the Walt Disney World Monorail or of the ferries if they are close to the lakes and rivers to the complex.

Hotel evolution of Walt Disney World

During many years the complex had only two Disney hotels, five hotels partners and a camp-site. the hotels partners and the camp-site are not entered in the graph opposite. Walt Disney had never wanted to make of Disneyworld, an immense complex hotel but simply a city in with an amusement park.

The opening in 1982 of EPCOT especially benefitted the investors apart from the complex from Walt Disney World Resort. But after the arrival of Michael Eisner with the head of the Walt Disney Company, a vast plan of creation of Disney hotel was started. They are first of all the Disney' S Caribbean Beach Resort and the Disney' S Grand Floridian Resort, followed by the double Disney' S Yacht & Beach Club Arises.

Since a hotel opened every year almost, sometimes two in the same year. In 1994 Disney wanted to compete with the motels around by creating its own motels: in fact the Disney' S All-Star Arises, in a rather simple decoration, propose more than 5700 rooms. The success of these three hotels pushed Disney to renew the concept by doubling the number of rooms, the first section of the Disney' S Pop Century Resort opened in 2005.

In Disney parallel in 1991 opened its first Disney Vacation Club, the Disney' S Old Key West Resort, which because of the success of the concept was renewed four times on the complex.

From 1999 of many hotels saw their renovated swimming pool and some gained there an entry with depth zero which makes it possible young people to reach while going in the swimming pool. It is a new sales point. It should be recalled that the lakes and rivers are prohibited with the stroke.

Unfortunately the crisis post- September 11th, 2001 slowed down the rate/rhythm and Disney was obliged to launch " rénovations" in its hotels in order to mask temporary closings commercially. Sometimes closing is clearly announced, thus the Disney' S Port Orleans Resort was closed several months without trade name.

However the commercial success, mainly due to the important return on investment, pushed Disney to open hotels beside each amusement park (that of Shanghai having to be exception). Competitors of Disney made in the same way.

Categories of hotels

Disney distributed its hotels according to their quality

  • the luxury hotels ( Deluxe Resort ) are hotels at price (very) high, comparable with Ritz and other Sheraton, for services mainly related to the Disney world. The quality of the reception and the services placed at the disposal is not however negligible.
  • the hotels at moderate price ( Moderate Arises ) are hotels at high price compared to outside. Quality is very correct.

  • the hotels at weak price ( Been worth Spring ) are the Disney version of the motels: being connected to the transport systems of the complex, their price is just higher than the normal of this type of hotel.

  • the Disney Vacation Club (DVC) which are apartments at time-sharings, accessible to the non-member so from the places are available.

The hotels partners

The complex includes/understands also hotels partners.

  • Ainsi five hotels of chains such as Radisson gather near Downtown Disney. They almost opened all in 1973 and 1984 but since almost all changed several times of owner and name.

Hotels ever built

Only six hotels had been envisaged by Walt Disney in 1966 for the complex. Five were to be arranged around Seven Seas Lagoon: Contemporary Arises, Polynesian Resort, Thai Spring, Venetian Resort and Persian Resort. Only the Disney' S Contemporary Arises and the Disney' S Polynesian Resort was built. A sixth was envisaged later on, the Disney' S Cypress Not Hotel .

  • Disney' S Thai Arises was to adopt the shape of a temple inhabitant of Thailand but rather near to Polynesian and to be located at the north of Contemporary.

  • Disney' S Venetian Resort was to be thematized on the town of Venice and built just in the north of the center of transport on Eastern bank of Seven Seas Lagoon. Space is always unoccupied.
  • Disney' S Persian Resort was to take the aspect of a Persian temple and to be built exactly where currently the is Disney' S Contemporary Resort
  • Disney' S Cypress Not Hotel it opened under another name: Disney' S Wilderness Lodge Arises.
  • Disney Mediterranean Resort was a project of hotel on the topic of the Greek islands instead of Venitian.
  • Fort Wilderness Junction was to be a hotel similar to the Disney' S Hotel Cheyenne of Disneyland Resort Paris but on a topic more raised/less western
