Hotel of Galliffet

The Hôtel of Galliffet is located at Paris in the 7 {{E}} district, 73 Rue of Grenelle and 50 Rue of Game preserve.

The hotel was built between 1784 and 1790 by Etienne-François Large the and the sculptor Jean-Baptiste Boiston for the marquis Simon-Alexandre de Galliffet, govern the Parliament of Provence, the site of the hotel of president Talon, who went back to 1680.

Seized like good of emigrant in 1792, it was affected in 1794 with the ministry for the Foreign relations.

In 1821, the heirs to the marquis de Galliffet managed to return in possession of the hotel which was divided into apartments and partly rented, in particular to infant of Spain gift Francisco of Paule in 1838 and to the nuncio of the Pope in 1850.

Ultimately, the Italian State entirely rented it in 1894 before acquiring in 1909 of it. The embassy was transferred in 1938 to the hotel from Boisgelin and the hotel of Galliffet shelters today the Italian cultural Institut and the Italian delegation near OECD.

Located in heart of small island, the hotel is connected to the street of Grenelle by a passage which is a restitution of the 19th century carried out by the architect Jean-Louis Provost, like to the street of Game preserve. As the hotel which preceded it, it also communicated with the Rue of the Vat, on which the entry was on the garden, marked by a monumental porch, on the level of the n° 84 (removed in 1837).

The frontages on court and garden are famous for their colossal Ordre on the ground.

The interior decoration with the antique is remarkable, in particular the large living room with reliefs of Boiston. The staircase goes back to 1898.
