Host
In the Christian liturgical rites of the Latin occident, the host is a small thin bread disc not fermented (Unleavened bread) that the Christian priest devotes during the celebration of the Eucharistie for the Communion.
In catholic theology, after the priest said in the name of the Christ: " This is my body delivered for vous" - (words of the Dedication) marked in the place of Christ (" in persona Christi") - the host is not any more of the bread but Christ entire ressuscity (at the same time human and divine) present “in substance” (mystery of the Transsubstantiation). One thus distinguishes host the not devoted, simple fragment of bread, and the devoted host, true body of Christ under only appearance (" espèce") bread.
The dedication of the host is indissociable of that of the chalice which carries out same manner the presence of the true blood of Christ under the species of the wine under the terms of the words of Christ which carry out what he promised by saying " This is my blood which is versed for the multitude in remission of the péchés."
This double transsubstantiation is the sign of the reality of the sacrifice of the Cross which saved the world once and for all, and whose acting presence is communicated by the Saver who is given in food and out of drink with all those which believe in Him. To eat the devoted host (communier), it is to be built-in to Christ and to enter fully the communion of those which are saved by its love.
