History

: hospitals on the town of Saint-Denis

The town of Saint-Denis, near to Paris, ground of passage lays out since centuries of places of hospitality, of reception, care and of enfermement from which names and the functions are sometimes very distant from those that we know today.

: a Hospital in Saint-Denis and a leper-house

The first document formally attesting existence of a Hospital date of 1218; but it is probable that reception facilities of the pilgrims and the poor ones preexisted. This structure comprised 12 beds including 7 beds of men and 5 beds of women. The city counted also a Léproserie intended for the Lépreux and the contagious patients.

: the Hospital of Saint-Denis, plus a first “hospital” (prison) and a military hospital

In 1710, new buildings on the same site are built. The hospital includes/understands 47 beds then. The medical team comprises a doctor, a surgeon helped by a Master surgeon of Paris, a higher sister and nuns resulting from the girls of charity as nurse and a apothicairess. The customers are targeted, are indeed allowed neither the children, neither the expectant mothers, neither the old men and nor the presumedly contagious patients.

January 1st 1769, is open in old a Tannerie on the site of the current markets, a house of begging. Called “hospital”, its activity was assimilated more to that of a prison; the detention conditions were terrible there, high mortality. Until 1896, its boarders will exert the function of street sweepers of the city. This hospital will be destroyed in 1890.

Thus in 1789, cohabit the Hospital, the hospital but also of small structures of reception disseminated in the various convents of the city. With laicization, the Hospital changes name for the house of humanity of Franciade then Civil hospice of Saint-Denis .

In 1795, a military hospital settles in the Abbaye of Saint-Denis.

The building of the Hospital is destroyed in 1907. Its pharmacy is preserved at the Musée of Art and History of Saint-Denis. On the site exist today schools and the media library of Saint-Denis

: “the hospital old people's home” on the current site of the Casanova hospital

In October 1881, a hospital (64 beds of medicine) and an old people's home of 36 beds open on the current site of the hospital of Casanova.

In March 1904, a military hospital settles in one of the houses. It is at the hospital of Saint-Denis that will take place the anti-rabic first vaccination by Louis Pasteur. Practiced too late, it will not allow the cure of the patient and thus did not enter the history of medicine.

: Hospitals of Saint-Denis

“The hospitals of Saint-Denis” are constituted with the construction of a hospital on the site of Delafontaine, the restoration of the hospital Casanova, the creation of schools of nurses and nurse's aides then the fastening of units of Pédopsychiatrie and Toxicomanie. From 1986 to 1998, the hospital exploited the private clinic Victor Hugo with Pierrefitte for activities of means and long stay which, since, were repatriated on the Casanova hospital.

At that time, the establishment counts nearly 1000 beds

The hospitals of Healthy-Denis were directed by Guy PIAU then by Dominique ACKER (currently general Conseillère of the hospitals) and finally at the end of the Nineties per Yves GROSJEAN.

: the Hospital of Saint-Denis

At the end of the years 1990, the hospitals of Saint-Denis adopted the denomination hospital of Saint-Denis.

Approximately 720 beds of hospitalization are open in 2005 with a proportion of beds of hospitalization to the day and the week in appreciable increase. Within the framework of the programme of real reorganization of the Delafontaine site, it is envisaged an improvement of the conditions of hospitalization with rooms equipped bathrooms and toilets.

The reconquest

In spite of confrontation with a financial and social major crisis, the Hospital in 2003 starts a deep reform of its operation. Under the impulse of a new leadership team directed by Gilbert CHODORGE, each sector of the hospital is reformed. Financial balance under the responsibility of Etienne LISSILLOUR, director of the financial businesses and the control of management, is found and makes it possible to consider new investments. Socially, the director of human resources, Nicolas-Raphaël FOUQUE, implemented the first estimated management of employment and competences. A work on the social climate made it possible to reduce the absentee rate appreciably (16,1 in 2003 and 9,9 in 2006). A price rewarded this new strategy (price for management in human resources: internal communication). On the medical businesses, Florence FAVREL-FEUILLADE has the role of passing from a strategy of reduction in the expenditure to a medical project directed towards the return to the activity.

Projects

Work-restoration

The establishment, within the framework of the plan Hospital 2007, comes to engage an important program of real reorganization which relates to the Delafontaine site with: - on the one hand the construction of a new building for the surgical pole mother-child and blocks; - in addition the restoration of the whole of the building of medicine surgery.

Quality-management

In 2004 two projects were adopted: the social project and the project of the care.

The project of care 2004-2008 federates looking after them on a topic “to begin so that the patient remains our priority”. It programs plans of improvements in the field of the reception of the patients, of the prevention of the risks, the traceability of the acts (file of care but also of the integration of the new personnel and trainees).

The social project 2004-2008 proposes several axes of improvement of human resources: formation, estimated management of employment, professional evolutions of the personnel communication and social dialog, health-quality and living conditions to work, social life.
