The Manège of Moscow is one of the most interesting buildings historically of the city.
It was set up by the Russian architect Joseph Bové. Its architectural style is traditional , its color white and ocher yellow. It was built of 1817 with 1825 to celebrate the fifth birthday the victory of the Russia over the troops of Napoleon and was used for the beginning to shelter the parades of riders and school of horsemanship for officers. It is located between the old university and the garden Alexandrovsky.
It is the Spanish architect Agustín of Betancourt who carried out the plans of them, it was a technical prowess for the time because its single roof rests on beams of 45 meters without any pilier.
Of 1831 at our days, it has been used as, place showroom of village fairs, concert hall but also, for a few years, shelters a subsidiary company of the Promsviazbank bank.
Berlioz directed a concert there the January 8th 1868 at the time of its second stay to Russia.

The horse-gear is very known culturally also because, in the Années 1960, it started to be used for artistic events (one can quote celebrates it meeting between Khrouchtchev and the sculptor Ernest Néizvesny).
The building was one brief moment used as showroom for the collection of cars of the Soviet leader Léonid Brejnev.

The March 14th 2004, a gigantic fire destroyed it, leaving only the walls and making two morts.
