Hornisgrinde

The Hornisgrinde is with its: 1164 meters more the high summit of the north of the Black Forest. It is appeared as a long dorsal line a length of approximately 2  km and is directed about in the North-South direction. The name probably comes from Latin Mons grinto what means marshy mount and which indicates to us the presence of marshes. Another origin of the name would derive from the concepts of Horn (top, mount), Marécage (Put) and Meadow (Grinde) and would mean Mont bald person, on which heights are marshy meadows .

The panoramic tower

All in the south, the top of the Mummelsee the tower of Hornisgrinde, high of 23  Mr. His construction in 1910 started from an initiative of the Schwarzwaldverein (Club of the black forest). The variegated sandstone of the surroundings was used as construction materials. With Mummelsee the tower was in its time one of the walks more the appraisals of the area. In 1942 it was confiscated by the Luftwaffe. After the second world war and until 1999 it was used by the French soldiers. Since, the forest co-operation of Seebach acquired it and the Commune of Seebach goes garand of the emphyteutic lease. May 29th, 2005 the tower was again open for all.

The tower of the signal ( Signalturm )

On Hornisgrinde is still another high tower open to the seven meters public, the tower of the signal, érrigée in 1840. This tower was converted in 1892 out of panoramic turn starting from the assembly of a staircase on its external side. In the year 2000 this construction, which was mentioned under the name of turn of Bismarck Bismarkturm , was renovated just like the external staircase which was replaced by a spiral staircase.

The peat bog

Directly in north the tower are the peat bogs. It was formed after the grubbing of the forest for then being used as meadow as of XVe century. Further in direction of north the site highest of the hornisgrinde culminating with 1164 meters of altitude is. While continuing in north, one finds three wind mills and finally the transmitter of the SWR. In the north of this tower the top of the mountain is inserted towards the Untersmatt commune.

Throughout the top walks on Westweg, literally way of the west , which extends like the Schwarzwaldhochstraße (road of the crètes of Black Forest) on the Road " Bundesstraße 500".

The park of wind mills

Because of the winds on average high of 5,2  m/s in the year were installed at the end of the years 1990 a park with wind mills. In 1994 was built to leave an private initiative two installations 110  kw chacunes. A third of 132  kw followed in 1996. As for the other parks with Eoliènnes, a controversy takes place also in connection with the site.

The transmitter

Radios of the German Western south ( Südwestrundfunk )

In the north of the highest site is with a height of 206  m of alt. the tower of Südwestrundfunk (SWR), built out of reinforced concrete and set up of 1971 to 1972. The frequencies sent make it possible thanks to the advantageous situation of the tower to almost cover all the valley of the the Rhine of Colmar to Freiburg-in-Brisgau with Mannheim while passing by Strasbourg and Karlsruhe with radio frequencies and television going until north and in the Drill Black average, in the sectors of Schwäbisch Alb and Neckar-Alb. Because of a reflection the emissions of Hornisgrind are available partly since the Suisse power station and to the Czech border in High Palatinat.

Until the end of the years 1980, the ex programs of the SWF Südwestrudfunk (German southern regional frequency) could be listened until in addition to the Vosges. Because of a convention with France, the zone of emission in direction of the West had to be reduced. The authorization of emission in this direction is coordinated with respectively 10  kw on the five most powerful frequencies. In spite of that the zone of emission of Hornisgrinde extends until the Vosgean crètes and thus the chains and stations radios can be received with very a good quality for Strasbourg and the surroundings.

The Audio DIGITAL Broadcasting, radio numerical is installation on the whole of the German territory on the channel 12B, 90W.

Television

Coordonénes geographical: 48° 36′ 39" NORTH, 8° 12 ′ 7" EAST. The tower is not opened with the public.

Deutsche Telekom

In the north of the tower of the SWR on Hornisgrinde the tower of emission of the Deutsche Telekom is. That Ci covers inter alia a relay station for radio ham. Until 2005, this tower emitted also the programs of Deutschlandfunk, before they are moved for the higher transmitter and more developed tower of the SWR.

Geographical coordinates: 48° 36′ 52" NORTH, 8° 12 ′ 13" EAST. This tower is not opened either with the public.


Marathon

The Marathon of Hornisgrinde in Black Forest of North, is a marathon of countryside , and highest bears the name of the top of the area, the Collar of Hornisgrinde. This marathon is annual, in this and July, since 1973.

The layout is full with charm in the middle of the forests, between the valley of Bühl (Bühlertal) , Forbach and Hornisgrinde. Departure and arrival are with the Bühlertal-Hundseck , on the road of the peaks of Black Forest (German Schwarzwaldhochstrasse) at an altitude of 900 meters.

The point low of the course, with the 25e kilometer is with the Stausee , an artificial lake of reserve d´eau. Also with the program a semi-marathon, and a course of 10 kilometers. Almost l integrality of the course is done on footpaths and forest.
