Horlivka

Horlivka (in Ukrainian: Горлівка), in the past Gorlovka (in Russian: Горловка), is a city of the Oblast de Donetsk, in the east of Ukraine. Its population is of: 292250 inhabitants in 2001.

Geography

August 1st The city is located at 40 km in the North-East of Donetsk, at 80 km of the Russian border and at 100 km of the Mer of Azov.

History and population

Located in the middle of the coal basin of the Donbass, the city owes its creation, in 1867, with the extraction of the Houille. Populated: 338000 inhabitants in 1989, it undergoes a fall of population due to the regression of this activity.

Economy

Historically mining, the city overall extended its activities to other industries, in particular chemical.
