Horacio Quiroga is an Uruguyan writer born with Salto Oriental in 1878 and died in Buenos Aires (Argentinian) in 1937.

Life

The very whole existence of Horacio Quiroga is placed under the sign of the dead one: died of his/her father, who, whereas the future writer is three months old draws a bullet in the head without it being known if it is of an accident or a suicide; died of his/her father-in-law, seventeen years later, which commits suicide of a rifle shot under the eyes of the young man; commit suicide of its first wife in 1915; died finally of his/her best friend, Federico Ferrando, accidentally killed by Quiroga itself whereas it handles a gun.

One will not be astonished that in this very particular context the tales and news published by Horacio Quiroga are placed under the sign of this sinister facility to die about which Victor Hugo speaks: one will quote, in particular, in the Contes of Love, of madness and dead , the news entitled “the cut the throat of hen”, “With the drift”, “the boat-suicides”, or, in the collection Anaconda , the news entitled “Diet of love”, in which the hero, guest to literally apply the proverb “food of love and fresh water”, dies slowly and peacefully of hunger.

Starting from 1912, Quiroga settles with San Ignacio, in the tropical forest.

Reached of a cancer of the prostate, it put an end to its days by swallowing a cyanide pill in 1937.
