Hootenanny Singers
Hootenanny Singers were a very popular group of music folk in Sweden of 1964 to 1970. Björn Ulvaeus, leader of the group, became later member of Abba. The other members were Hansi Schwartz, Tony Rooth and Johan Karlberg. They played all of the guitar and sang in harmony.
History
The group is founded in 1961 with Västervik and has as a name West Bay Singers . In 1963, they take part in the finale of a contest of song Plats på Scen with the Swedish radio. Stig Anderson and its associate Bengt Bernhag locates them and offer to them a contract in their recording company Polar Music . The group has as a repertory of the Swedish and American songs of folk and are inspired by the Kingston Trio and Brothers Four. They make many rounds in the Folkparks and have 40 songs classified in the Svensktoppen. The group separates definitively in 1974. In 1979 Hansi Schwarz and Tony Roth try to reform it with Martin Arnoldi and Eoin Clancy but success is not with go.
