Hooge Mierde

Hooge Mierde is a village of 1712 inhabitants (2006) in the commune of Reusel-In Mierden, in the province of the Brabant-Septentrional to the Netherlands.

Geography

The village of Hooge Mierde, with its hamlet Kuilenrode form the western part of the commune. In the west the border with the Belgium is.

Hooge Mierde, just like the village close to Reusel, is on the boundary line of two basins slopes: that of the Meuse and that of the the Scheldt.

Nature

In the west of the village, along the Belgian border is a small natural reserve. The Zwartven is a large pond of high the Tourbière S, in the middle of the preserved moors of the Défrichement for the Agriculture.

History

To the Middle Ages, the village belonged to the Abbaye of Postel, depend on the abbey of Floreffe.

For a long time, Hooge Mierde and Lage Mierde formed only one seigniory ( heerlijkheid ). Hooge Mierde constituted the field of the lord of it, while Lage Mierde was inhabited by the free farmers.

Today

Today, Hooge Mierde preserved a primarily agricultural character. Its monumental bell-tower and the alley which leads to the church is emblematic for the village.
