Honore Daumier

Honore Daumier , born the February 26th 1808 with Marseilles and dead the February 10th 1879 with Valmondois, is a painter, Sculpteur, Caricaturiste and Lithographe French.

Presentation

In 1828, Daumier carries out its first Lithographie S for the newspaper the Silhouette . In 1830, it draws its first caricatures for the Caricature . In 1832, begins its long collaboration with the Hullabaloo , newspaper playing a big role in the political life of the time, founded by Charles Philipon and especially directed against Louis-Philippe.

Impudence, allied to a consumed art of the drawing, brings to the caricatures of Daumier an immediate celebrity. She is worth also a judgment in to him 1832 in six months of imprisonment, for the publication of a caricature representing Louis-Philippe in Gargantua. Following the adoption of the laws on the Censure in 1835, Daumier gives up the political satire to turn to the caricature of manners, kind in which he excels ( People of Justice , the Good Middle-class men ). It is made also the witness of certain tragic events or strong scenes being held with Paris ( Rue Transnonain, April 15th, 1834 , the legislative Belly ).

As of the publication of the Furne edition of the Human Comedy in 1845, it takes part in the illustration of the novels of Honore de Balzac, in particular the Father Goriot, the Cousin White beet. He had already collaborated with Grandville and Henri Monnier in the illustration of the review the Chronicle of Paris (1836), created by Balzac.

In 1865, whereas he knows serious financial problems, one of his/her friend the sculptor Adolphe-Victor Geoffroy-Plows the stubble convinces it to settle with his wife with Valmondois in the Val-d'Oise. There, his/her friend Corot lends a pretty house to him, in the center of the village, where he dies in 1879.

One year later, its body is exhumed cemetery of Valmondois to be transferred to Paris with the Cimetière from the Father-Lachaise, where it rests at the sides of his friends Corot and Daubigny, in the 24e Division.

The town of Marseilles paid to him homage by setting up to the foot of the Hôtel God a bust in Bronze.
