Hongre

Hongre is the name which indicates a Cheval castrated.

In general, the horses in Europe are castrated because a whole horse is more difficult to control. For example, if a mare is in the neighborhoods, it can pack by feeling its presence and to do everything to go to join it. In the schools of horsemanship, the horse hongre is often preferred with the mares and the whole male horses for their calm and their docility. Moreover, the Castration can make it possible to better manage a too impetuous horse and thus to give access to him an high level of competition.

Among the racehorses, one finds some hongres famous, of which Giesolo de Lou and Général of the Lupin.

Etymology

The term derives known at least since the years 1100, drift of Hungarian via the Latin of Germany and would be of Turkish origin . This term would have been allotted to these horses because it was of use of the châtrer in Hungary.
