Honeymoon
In Occident, the honeymoon is the voyage which the young grooms make after their ceremony of marriage. It is, for them, the true first moment of intimacy to enable them to be discovered apart from the usual framework of life.
This expression replaced and is in competition with that of Honeymoon (name which usually indicates the first month following the Mariage).
History
During the old mode, the young couples of the nobility go on a journey after the marriage to visit their grounds.
The tradition of the honeymoon is born in England at the beginning of the 19th century. It spreads in France under this name ( voyage to the English way ) starting from the Années 1820. At the time, England is very with the mode. This voyage becomes current with the Belle Time. It is also in the last third of the XIXe century that it takes its name of honeymoons .
Held with the middle-class, it is the first moment of intimacy of the couple, during which they discover their respective bodies and the sexual pleasure. It is as by the honeymoon as the couple autonomise of family chalk-lining. This practice is initially badly seen, as the handbooks of good manners indicate it, at the same time because it exhibe the moment of the sexual initiation of the wife, and because the female pleasure is regarded as dangereous because of the doctors. The doctors also oppose the too long voyages weddings, because it is during this voyage that the woman must fall pregnant. However of the too difficult conditions can upset it.
According to the family traditions and the resources of each one, it is about a small stay in the countryside, sometimes in a house of family or a true voyage abroad. In this last case, the destinations are generally the Riviera and the Italy, celebrated for their sensuality. Romantic cities like Rome, Venice or Vérone are destinations of choice. One constantly finds the choice of the south, the sun and the sea. These elements represent the spring of the young couple, but also answer a whole representation of the sensuality.
The railway companies benefit from this passion and propose comfortable trains for these customers, as the East-Express train for those which have the means of them, but also the Riviera Express, the Coast-with Fast Azur, the Vichy-Royat Express or the Dauphine-Savoy-Express train. The hotels also adapt and often propose a bridal Chambre as from this time, in spite of the reserves of the doctors about the voyages by train. They feared that they do not reinforce nervous diseases and did not advise long voyages of weddings in the train, during one time when the young groom was been willing to fall pregnant.
In certain connections, the popularization of the honeymoon marks the beginning of the tourism of mass.
Destinations
An exotic, and romantic framework is in general selected. Nowadays, the space of the honeymoon increased considerably, compared to that of the 19th century. More remote places, like Maurice or the Seychelles have their followers. The catalogs of the travel agencies abound in enticing proposals, with the tariff promotions reserved for the young couples in honeymoon.
Nowadays, this aspect is justified less, but it is the pleasure of the shared discovery and the possibility of storing common memories, to which one will refer throughout the life of the couple.
