Holy House of Lorette

The Sainte House of Lorette is the house where, according to the Christian tradition, Jesus-Christ was designed Holy Spirit within the Virgin Mary. She is sometimes called the house of Nazareth .

The legend

At the 3rd century, when Sainte Helene would have gone to Nazareth, it would have raised a church in which the house of Nazareth was. In addition to discovering the True Cross, it would have also discovered the supposed place of the Incarnation. The tradition also tells that it was in this house that Marie accepted her education and grows with her parents Sainte Anne and Saint Joachim.

However, at the 13th century, the Christian holy places are threatened by buckwheats and the church built by Helene is destroyed. The same fate would have been reserved for the house of Nazareth. According to the legend, God miraculeusement made transport the Holy House in Dalmatie, in the towns of Tersatz and Fiume, on the mount Rauniza, with the assistance of his angels.

This account was reported under the pontificate of Nicolas IV. In the house, the villagers found a statue representing Notre-Dame crowned and holding the Child-Jesus. The bishop Alexandre Georgevich imméditament was imméditament informed and lived by it soon a Apparition mariale in answer to his prayers, explaining the origins of the house to him.

Always according to the tradition, the Holy House would have been again transported by the angels in the Marche of Ancône, where it would have been collected by a named lady Lorette the December 10th 1294. It is from there that the history comes from Notre-Dame de Lorette. The Litanies of Lorette were composed by the Cardinal Savelli in connection with the event.

The heritage

The inhabitants of the Dalmatie for a long time honor this mariologic tradition by organizing pilgrimages with the sanctuary with Lorette and by devoting churches to Marie, Mère of God in their own country. The popes Black and white II, Paul II, Sixth IV, Clement VII, Leon X and Sixte V were them among first sovereign pontiffs to recognize this wonder officially.

The history of the Holy House interested several Christian figures during and after the Rebirth, of which especially Érasme, Rene de Bastarnay, Louis d' Arpajon and Battista Spagnuoli. The sanctuary of Lorette was high in Cité mariale and episcopal and since then became one of the most important places of pilgrimage of Europe.

The September 1st and 2nd 2007, the pope Benoît XVI goes to Lorette to live a festival of the faith with the young people of the city.

Critical point of view

According to historical criticism, it is a Byzantine prince, Ange Commène, which took in 1290 the initiative to transfer a typical house from Palestine since Nazareth until in the Italian Steps (undoubtedly subject to remuneration, since that had made a success of a few decades earlier with the king of France Louis IX). The house was dismounted in Nazareth in 1291, was unloaded then on the coasts of Dalmatie and was finally reassembled in Loreto in 1294.
