Holy-severe

Holy-Severe is a common French, located in the department of the Charente and the area Poitou-Charentes.

Geography

Holy-severe is located at the North-West of Charente, it is bordering on the communes of Bréville, Cherves-Richemont, Réparsac and Houlette in Charente and Macqueville in Charente-Maritime.

History

The " hillock of Abattu" could be a tumulus.

Protohistoric circular ditches were discovered, on the one hand in Pre Rousset, on the other hand with the localities Pontrauds.

The fortification made up of liftings of ground and ditches located along the Roman and named way the Romain Camp, is in spite of his name, a medieval fortification.

The school is a RPI between Bréville and Holy-Severe.

Holy-severe accommodates the nursery school and Bréville the elementary school.

Places and monuments

  • Holy-Severe Church: the old church, on the diocese of Holy, depended on the abbey of Châtres. It dated from and formed a long rectangle which had its vaults. Neglected a long time, it collapsed in 1892. New was built, in the style of the 12th century, by Misters Barbaud and Bauhain, architects, of 1896 with 1897, and was devoted in 1898. It is an elegant building, preceded by a porch under a bell-tower, with arrow hurled out of frame covered with slates, follow-up of a transept and an apse in hemicycle.
