Holy-Marie-of-Kid is a common French, located in the department of the Landes and the area Aquitaine.

Toponymy: There exist several possible explanations in the name of the commune:

  • the termination " osse" would come from the suffix euskarien " otz (a)" who indicates a field, a place. This Basque suffix remained in Gascon (- bone () \ - òç (a)) and Aragonese (- ués) and constituted of many names of village in the surface vasconne (Tosse, Seignosse, Biaudos, Angresse, Seyresse, Tarnos, Tyrosse, Biscarosse…). See the related article Basque Toponymy.
  • It would seem that " gosse" from Kid < Garros comes < (Goi/parked) - OZ, “place in height” (In the commune, the Gayrosse district would come from the same bottom Proto-Basque).
  • the word “kid” could be a deformation of English “goose”, goose, because this bird is very present in this area of the Moors, conquered by the English during the Guerre of Hundred-Years
