Holy-Irene is a parish in the regional Municipalité of county of Matapédia with the Quebec (Canada), located in the administrative area of the Low-Saint-Laurent.
The municipality of the parish of Holy-Irene established in 1953 draws her name from the parish set up canonically by the bishop of Rimouski in 1948, in consequence of its detachment of that of Saint-Benoit-Joseph-Labre. Already in 1930, the instituted mission answered the denomination of Holy-Irene. This name makes honor with Irene Sénécal, who marries in 1911 Hector Laferté (1885-1971), Minister for Colonization, the Hunting and the Fisheries of 1930 to 1934, in the liberal government of Alexandre Taschereau.
One finds at this place the center of ski of Valley-in Irene (Regional Park of Valley of Irene), arranged in 1971 with the foot of the mount of the same name which culminates to 685 Mr. the center of ski comprises very nearly 26 slopes with snow 100% natural. The amateurs of dusters will be cherished.
Its economic main activities come from the forestry, the center of ski Valley-in Irene and agriculture (Farms bovine and ovine).
The principal trade are: Think of Adventure-Lodging and fixed prices (a lodging of the passer by and a producer in tourism of adventure) and coffee-meets it “the Villager” (offering a service of break-down mechanic and fast-food industry). One finds there also a post office as well as an elementary school which offers a program Sport-slips at the primary education level.
