Holy-Eulalie (Quebec)

Holy-Eulalie is a Canadian Municipalité Quebec located in the regional Municipalité of county of Nicolet-Yamaska and in the administrative area of the Center-of-Quebec. It is named in the honor of Eulalie de Mérida.

The canonical erection of Holy-Eulalie was issued the October 3rd 1857 and the parish was set up in civil municipality by Proclamation of the Monk Government the July 18th 1862.

As of the autumn 1861, Noah Tourigny, coming from Saint-Gregoire, starts to clear the first batch of the concession. Majority of the colonists who will be established in the parish at the beginning of colonization coming besides from Saint-Gregoire of which several were of acadian descent.

The first church is set up in 1872. Become probably too exiguous, it will be replaced by the current church from which work had begun in 1904. It will be delivered to the parishioners the June 10th 1906.

The school municipality is instituted by order of the Governor as a Council on May 1st, 1861 and the popular Case will be born on February 18th, 1935 whereas 22 members subscribe each one a partnership share of 5$.

Holy-Eulalie was equipped, during the years of several Community services. A committee of leisures had been born in 1948, but it is in 1967 that the Leisures of Holy-Eulalie are built-in. In 1979, under the aegis of the " Knights of Colomb, " seven organizations link themselves to create “the Agreement” which is given like mission of equipping the parish with a community center. This one will be inaugurated on December 4th 1982.

Following a major monetary help of the programme of “Development of the environment of Hydro-Quebec”, on March 14th 1987, one carries out the inauguration of an important enlarging of the community center which becomes thus an interesting multipurpose room with the service of the parochial community.

August 5th 1985 marked the inauguration of the villa “Good Agreement”, a masonry sheltering ten residences at moderate price.

On Saturday, September 4 1949, a Fire destroyed, at the village, three houses including a general store and a forging mill. Following this disaster, the Municipalité acquires a pump with fire and makes dig a well in the floor of the church. One can consider that it is at this time which is born a relatively organized fire protection organization.

Today, this service counts nearly 20 Pompier S volunteers who have a truck-pump, of a tanker and of a set up barracks hardly two years ago. Since 1975, the village is equipped with an aqueduct and sewerage system.
